Our judge, Fiona Lake, has carefully reviewed all 247 entries and made her decisions. Before we can reveal the results however, we need to get your votes for the People’s Choice prizes.
With the Wandoan Show cancelled and the Wandoan Cultural Centre closed indefinitely, we’re going to have to do this the virtual way. Here’s how it will work:
- The Judge has picked out her Top 30. Instead of being on display at the Show they’re displayed here on the website, each with its own number.
- After you’ve decided on your favourite, click on the green button at the bottom of that page to send us an email with your choice. Remember, one vote only!
- The closing date for voting will be Friday, 10 April at midnight.
- All those votes will be tallied and determine the 1st, 2nd and 3rd People’s Choice prizes.
We’ll then be able to announce all the winners.
We’d hoped to be able to put on an awards presentation at the Cultural Centre to celebrate another great year but that now looks most unlikely.
Instead, the results will be released on our website shortly after April 10 at a time to be determined. That time will be announced a few days beforehand in the “News & Updates” section of the homepage and at the same time we’ll send an email announcing the release time to all entrants.

THE RESULTS WILL BE RELEASED ON THURSDAY MORNING
The results will be released here at about 7 AM Thursday, 16th April.
A VERY GOOD YEAR FOR THE WANDOAN PHOTO CHALLENGE
This year the Photo Challenge received 247 entries, 211 in the Open class (just marvellous) and 36 from Young Photographers. We were a little disappointed with the latter number but the quality of entries went a long way towards making up for it.
So, a big thank you to everyone who entered.
All in all, the 2020 Wandoan Photo Challenge was a most satisfying experience and we look forward to bringing you the results soon.
PEOPLE’S CHOICE VOTE
With the Wandoan Show cancelled and the Cultural Centre closed we’ve had to change how the People’s Choice votes will be collected and how the results are to be announced. The details are laid out immediately to the left on this page. Or click here to go straight to the voting page.
JUDGE’S COMMENTS
Our judge, Fiona Lake, had a tough job. She made fascinating choices, some of which surprised us but generally feel right on reflection. Here’s how she sums up her approach to judging:
“Excellence is where interesting action and creativity meets technical excellence. Ultimately making an impact matters –but when all else is equal, technical skill will of course win. And details matter – it’s what elevates good to excellent.”
She was also good enough to comment on all the winning photos. The photographers who took them will of course receive these comments but they’re so interesting (and in our view valuable) that we may end up making them more broadly available in a “Behind the Scenes” section.
